Canoe 25SE0004

A Canoe for the Long Journey Home. A sense of adventure filled me as I launched my canoe into the river with nothing but hope and the quiet strength of belief. It is a simple vessel no engine no sail just wood water and a dream. As it slipped into the current. I stood on the bank and watched it drift small against the vastness yet full of meaning I whispered a silent prayer May you find your way home. My hope is not bound by maps. I dream that this canoe carried by river and tide will journey far far beyond the bends of Missouri past cities and fields past the places where land gives way to ocean. That will thread to great arteries of water from the heart of this continent to the wide waiting arms of the Pacific. Season by season it will travel. Rain will fall upon it. Ice may try to hold it. Winds may toss it but still I dream it will go on. Because this canoe carries more than wood and hope it carries my longing for home. It carries my voice across miles of river and waves towards the Philippines where the sky smells of salt and memory. Maybe just maybe someone there will see it drift ashore. And even if it never arrives even if it is lost in the depths or the quiet hush of distance the dream itself lies on because in launching this canoe. I affirmed something sacred that the heart always remember where it belongs.
