My journey started out in Bismarck ND. The hot humid weather warmed me as I was carried down the hill to the Missouri River. When I was placed in the water the cool temperature and pull of the current felt both exciting and refreshing In my first moments in the water I was greeted by many boats canoes and kayaks as people enjoyed the beautiful day. As I traveled on farther I no longer had as many boating companions but I saw more and more beavers deer turtles eagles and many other animals enjoying the river Often smaller rivers would join the Missouri and my river was growing I came to my first dam near Pierre South Dakota and luckily a kind stranger helped me acrossI It was fun seeing South Dakotas capitol This river must be pretty important if both North Dakota and South Dakotas capitols are on it As I would experience during the next dams at Big Bend Fort Randall and Gavins Point these dams created lakes where the current was much more gentle and the water warmed up After almost 800 miles I saw the St. Louis Arch As I flowed into the Mississippi River I felt like I was on another planet The width of the river and all of the barge traffic was like nothing I had experienced in the MIssouri. I had many miles over 1200 to get used to them though and I soon grew to enjoy the large waves they created It was also fun to wave to people on the huge cruise ships As the weather and water was getting warmer I noticed some different crops growing from what I had been used to on the Missouri River. Instead of corn and soybean I was now seeing cotton and peanuts. Just when I thought this river would go on forever I heard the sound of Jazz music I was in Louisiana Soon I flowed through the wetlands of the Mississippi Delta and had my first taste of the salty water of the Gulf of Mexico I wonder where the ocean currents will take me now
