My name is Hudson. I am on a journey to Hudson Bay. It is spring and I just left Crookston by being launched into the Red Lake River. I am headed to Grand Forks, there I will enter the Red River. I have just passed Fisher and only 15 miles until I reach Grand Forks. It is about 6:00 in the evening and the sun is starting to set. When I woke up I was on the riverbank. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get back into the water. A golden retriever and a little boy about 10 years old came over to me. I was scared the dog thought I was a chew toy. The boy read the message on my right side which said, PUT ME IN THE WATER PLEASE. The boy knew where I was going because of my name. He wrote Grand Forks on my right side and brought me to calmer water and gave me a push and I was off again to Grand Forks. Finally after what seemed like hours but was actually 5 minutes I reached Grand Forks. I didn't realize it would be so noisy. I saw some walleye swimming next to me. One of them nibbled my canoe and I told it to shoo by shaking, it quickly swam away and just in time to watch as I entered the Red River. As I left Grand Forks it began to storm. I shook with fear as a wave threw me on shore again! I wondered if I would ever get to Hudson Bay. I spent the night on shore as animals like rabbits, lynxes, squirrels, coyotes, and even a cougar came to see what I was. I woke up to the sound of footsteps. I couldn't look behind me and with that, I was picked up and examined by a girl who asked her dad if she could keep me. Thankfully her dad found the message and said I had a journey to go on. She pushed me back into the river. It was late in the morning about 10:00 and it was very sunny. My permanent marker designs started to fade. I reached the border after almost 5 months because of I kept washing up on shore. This time I got stuck between two rocks in the middle of nowhere. A kind fisherman accidently caught me in his net. He could barely make out my name. He brought me back to his house and put a coat of the same colored paint on each design. He put a waterproof coat of clear paint so his coat would stay on. He gently pushed me back into the Red River and I was about a half an hour away from Winnipeg. It was dark by the time I reached Winnipeg and I washed up again! I was getting tired of getting stuck I wondered what it would be like if I went to the ocean. It's been over a year since I was launched from Crookston and I was nowhere near Hudson Bay. When the sun rose I saw a shining half-circle. When I got closer I realized it was Lake Winnipeg! I was almost there. It was a lot colder in Lake Winnipeg than in the Red Lake River and the Red River combined. It was so cold I thought I would freeze in the middle of the lake and it was the middle of summer! It was a long and slow way to Hudson Bay. Every night it would freeze and I would be stuck. It was almost a year and a half when I got halfway between Lake Winnipeg and Hudson Bay which means I have been in the water for 2 and a half years. Someone picked me up and saw my message. He knew I was going to Hudson Bay. He drove to a larger part of the river and let me go. Another day passed and it is autumn. I was very happy when at last! I reached Hudson Bay. The only thing standing between me and the bay was a couple of polar bears and a thick layer of ice. It was only 14 degrees above zero. I was terrified of the polar bears and I just wanted them to leave. But I was on a mission to reach Hudson Bay and I wasnՉ€™t going to let a few polar bears get in my way. With all my might I pushed myself onto the ice and I slid right down the ice and scared the polar bears away. I was there. I finished my mission at last! I heard a beluga whale off in the distance and a walrus almost broke me into pieces but I reached my destination at last.
