My CanoeԹԲs Journey
19RD0755
My name is Dusty and I was launched Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Central Park Crookston, Minnesota. My journey began in the Red Lake River and I hope to end up in the Hudson bay.
Right after I was launched, I got super nervous because I didn't know what might happen to me. Soon after I was launched, I met a bever who was on a rock and tried to grab me, but then he fell off the rock and into the water and I floated away.
After I escaped the beaver, I hit some really big rapids and I flipped over on my back so I couldn't see anything except fish. Then about two hours later, I managed to flip back over hoping to see everything, except it was dark out, so I couldn't see very well.
Then about a little more than a month later, I arrived in Fisher, Minnesota and I was still on the Red Lake River. Although I was still on the Red Lake River it felt different, maybe it's because I didn't see a deer in Crookston but I did in Fisher. I saw a deer while he was eating, but I don't think he saw me because he didn't do anything.
After the deer experience, I got stuck on a branch and was there for two days. I got unstuck but I don't know how.
Then about five weeks later, I made it to East Grand Forks, Minnesota and was still on the Red Lake River when suddenly, a frog jumped on board and we became pretty good friends for a little bit, until he jumped back into the river. I didn't know why he left me.
Then I saw the scariest thing I've ever seen, it was a big bear and he thought I was a fish. He tried to grab me, but I somehow went the other direction so he couldn't get me.
Then about three months later, I hit a huge confluence and was know going into the Red River in Grand Forks from the Red Lake River. It wasn't like any other experience I've ever had. The rapids were huge and it felt like I was tubing in a tornado. After that horrible experience, I started to feel a lot more safe and comfortable. Then I saw another deer but this one definitely saw me because the current had pushed me to the side by the shore and he grabbed me and started to walk alongside of the river with me in his mouth. Then he dropped me and I fell into the river but almost landed on a branch but I did not.
Then about five months later, I made it to Pembina, North Dakota and saw so many cool animals.
When I was about two hours out of Pembina I saw so many cars and I had no clue why there were so many cars. All I knew is that well all those cars were stuck in traffic and I didnԹԲt have to worry about traffic but I did have to worry about escaping the giant moose thats was following me. It is a good thing that the current sped up because I had know clue what else I would of done to get away from that moose.
Then after about seven months of traveling, I was finally in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and floating on Lake Winnipeg. Now that I was in Canada, it looked a lot different. Going into Lake Winnipeg in the confluence was a lot better because I knew what was going to happen, but it was still scary.
Then about one year later, I arrived in Port Nelson, Canada and was now moving into the Hudson Bay. I saw a polar bear but it didn't see me because I was stuck in the ice and it felt like I was in that ice for year, but it had only been three weeks then finally I was free. I kept on moving and finally made it to my destination.
I was seeing the coolest things like an arctic fox and more polar bears. And that's the end of my canoe journey.
