Canoe 17FIS019

Fisher, Minnesota was covered in almost melted snow and ice. The fourth grade class was about to launch little wooden canoes off the bridge and into the river. Չ€Three, two, one!Չ€said the teacher, and off went the canoes. The canoes were finally off on their journey to(hopefully)the Atlantic Ocean. Before the kids had sent off their canoes, they had said where they wanted their canoes to end up. Most of them wanted theirs to end up in the Atlantic Ocean. One girl wanted hers to end up in Hudson Bay with her cousin who lives along the bay. Her name was Danika and her cousin is named Kaya. Before the class threw their canoes into the river they had decorated them and put a little sticker inside that told anyone who found them to go to a website so they could track them along the way. Danika had been tracking her canoe all day, but it had barely moved (at least that's what she thought. On the other side of the story Paddle was not having a good time. She was very cold. Paddle had almost made it to Grand Forks. The currents had suddenly picked up. Paddle was going faster and faster. Gray clouds suddenly appeared. Rain started falling down down Down. Paddle was being pushed back and forth. Then all of a sudden the rain stopped. Right when Paddle thought no more accidents a huge log appeared in front of her. She tried to veer left then right, then she realized she was only wood. SMACK! Everything went dark. Not because she was knocked out, it was because she was stuck under the log. About three days after the struggling, Paddle felt a sudden lift on the log. She got a quick glance before the log blocked her sight. It was a beaver! The beaver was going to take the log back to his dam. Paddle was now on her way to Winnipeg but upside down. Months and months later, Paddle had only made it halfway to Hudson Bay. But she had had so many adventures. Some were good and some were bad. She met some bucks sharpening their antlers, she had made some chipmunk friends, she had also met some birds, in a nest, on her head. And now for the bad times, ugh! Once a beaver tried to gnaw her up, or that time when a bear thought she was a delicious red salmon. It had been almost two years and Paddle hadn't been found once! Paddle thought about how much she wanted to be found. Out of nowhere she saw a little red haired girl. She kept getting closer and closer and bigger and bigger. Paddle soon realized that it wasn't a little red haired girl, it was a fire! Soon it had trapped Paddle on one side, but on the other she was free. She desperately wished that someone would find her. Now it seemed hopeless. It was now so bright Paddle could not see a thing. Paddle felt a gentle touch. She got picked up. Paddle had heard a loud shout saying, Չ€œ KAYA! Get back in here!Չ€ Paddle could now see. By the looks of it Paddle had finally reached Hudson Bay. The girl looked at the sticker which said Չ€œfind me and place me back in the waterՉ€. The girl started tossing Paddle around in her hands. She was walking up to an odd shaped house. The girl was going to show the canoe to her father. As the girl was tossing the canoe around she saw a little note on the bottom of the canoe. It said: Չ€œPADDLE WANTS TO STAY IN HUDSON BAY!Չ€ The girl was very surprised and brought the canoe up to the odd shaped house to show her father. She asked her father,Չ€ Dad, can I keep it? Please. It says I can, see!Չ€ as she showed her dad the message. Later that night Kaya's father finally said yes! She was so happy! She went and got Paddle from the garage and set Paddle on a blue sparkly perch Kaya had made. Kaya renamed Paddle Little Traveler. Kaya and Little Traveler lived forever together!
