Hope eagerly looked at the vast expansion of the Tongue River. Tootsy an excited little girl clutched her canoe tightly. Then very slowly she walked to the river. The teacher shoutedՉEveryone drop youՉre canoes!Չ Hope caught a final glimpse of her owners face before she was drop into the freezing water.
Hope was very excited to see the world. She bumped into her fellow canoe as she whispered her good byes to Tootsy and Icelandic State park where she was launched. She bobbed up and down as Fox Squirrels jumped over head in the bright noon sun. The river flowed into the small town pf Arka. Hope saw small children playing at the banks of the river. Careful to disguise herself in the reeds she continued her journey. She passed through Cavalier as the sun began to set. Hope snuggled up to a Spruce tree an d went to sleep.
In the morning she woke up to a strange and new area. She saw an otter family playing in the cattails. She caught a glimpse of a sign that said Bathgate. She got very annoyed by the Damselflies buzzing around her. Hope was about to see a beautiful sight. She turned the corner and saw an amazing sight. Johnny Jumpups surrounded the bank. Hope saw purples, yellow, and whites. In the middle of it all was a beautiful and big Willow tree.
The Willow tree hung beautifully in the water. Looking like a bride in her wedding dress and veil. It blew peacefully in the wind. Sad to depart this place. Hope road on. Turing the curb she saw the little town of Pembina. All of a sudden Hope forked into raging rapids. Hope got stuck in the rocks. The water poured over her chipping her wood. Unable to move Hope sat there getting pelted by pieces of rock bruising her wood. All of a sudden a little hand picked her up and placed her at the bank of the river. ՉMommy look!Չshouted a little boy.ՉItՉs a canoe,Չ replied the mother. Then she carefully placed it back in the water. And Hope was off.
By now it was getting dark and Hope was fast asleep. Not knowing the she was passing through a little town called Emerson Hope. It was early dawn when hope got woken up by the sound of screech owls hooting in the Cottonwood trees along the river. HopeՉs eyes were wide open, because she saw a sign that said Morris. As she passed through Morris she saw small shops with costumers busling in and out of them. The aroma of bakeries made her heart melt. Hope went through twists and turns that brought her to a peaceful part of the river. As the hot sun beat down on her she dozed off.
Hope woke up to the sound of a busy city. She looked over her and saw a huge bridge. She looked right and left. Buildings surrounded her. Hope looked eagerly at a sign it saidՉ» Winnipeg! She would soon be floating to Lake Winnipeg. Hope was almost to Hudson Bay. Not able to sleep hope just sat there staring at the beautiful city lights. At dawn Hope final drifted to sleep. In the morning Hope woke up to the sound of children playing. Hope had made it toՉ» LAKE WINNIPEG! But Hope didnՉt end her journey here. It would be a year until Hope would cross the Nelson River and make it to Hudson Bay.
