Traveling the River
My canoe will make it all the way to Hudson Bay. I hope it sees lots of animals and meets some cool fish. Along the way, my canoeՉs journey will be action packed.
Macilee was designing her canoe at HoneyBrooke Elementary when the perfect name came to her head. ՉChance!Չ Macilee told her friend. She started on the painting. By the time she was done it was time to go home.
A couple days went by and it was time to let the canoes go on Turtle River. Everything was going great until Chance got stuck in some twigs and branches. Chance couldn't continue sailing! Eventually Chance got unstuck from the strong rushing water.
Suddenly, a frog jumped on him! The frog kept jumping for several yards! After that, the frog fell off. Chance continued his journey. He passed some geese in the water. He also passes by a moose that is very friendly. The moose started talking to him. ՉHey, little guy,Չ the moose said. Chance was looking for a buddy. The only thing that he couldn't do was reply. Chance was very upset. The moose didn't get a reply, so he just walked along with him. Chance was happy that he had some company. After a while, the moose had to go back to his family.
One day after finishing passing through a smaller lake, Chance went near the shore and a fisherman found him. Chance overheard the fisherman's and his sonՉs conversation.
ՉHey son, come look at this!Չ the fisherman said.
ՉWhat dad?Չ Marcus replied.
ՉSo how do you like it? Do you want to give it to your sister as a birthday present?Չ the dad asked.
ՉUhm, I donՉt know dad I think we should put it back.Չ Marcus said worryingly.
ՉAre you sure Marcus? We are going to bring it home anyways.Չ The fisherman said.
ՉBut dad-Չ Marcus tried to say but got cut off by his father.
ՉHey! What did I tell you? No buts.Չ said the fisherman. The fisherman and his son went home a half hour later. The boy was upset with his father but listened anyways.
When they got home, Marcus was mad with himself because he didn't stand up for himself. He realized that they were going back to the lake for his sisterՉs birthday party! He went over to his sister to tell her the plan. His sister was totally on board with the idea.
Here was the plan: they were going to go to the lake and play in the water. Before that, they were going to take the gift with the canoe in it and leave. They were going to let it go!
The two went to the gift table and found the canoe. They sneakily hid it behind themselves and told their parents where they were going. They made it to the path to the lake. Marcus was happy and nervous at the same time. His sister April was just nervous. She had never done anything like this before. They sent it off. ՉBye little boat!Չ said April.
A couple months later, Macilee was walking along the brooke by her new house when she saw something in the mud. ՉWhat is this?Չ she had said aloud. She walked closer and saw all the faded colors. ՉChance!Չ she yelled. She was very shocked that Chance was there. Her canoe didnՉt make it to Hudson Bay, but Chance did make it back to Macilee.
