My FriendՉs Journey
My canoe will make it all the way to the Hudson Bay. I hope it sees mountains and meets animals. Along the way, my canoeՉs journey will be epic and fun.
Where a tiny village was laid, there lived a beautiful girl that was younger than any of her sisters. Her name is Feather.
Feather needed something to do in the tiny village, so she went, got some strong wood, and made a colorful canoe. She painted it with bright, happy colors. When it was springtime, she set off for the Turtle River where she laid the brightly painted canoe in the river water.
As she put it in the water, she said,Չ Off you go, little canoe. Make it to the Hudson Bay. Your name shall be Ojiiwaaman+ag, which stands for Friend.Չ
As Friend went along the way, a very powerful stream pushed her, so she got stuck on a mossy log. Friend stayed there for what seemed like a long time, when a beautiful and graceful doe helped her and pushed the log out of the way so Friend could continue with her journey. Friend is determined to keep going on the way to the Hudson Bay.
A few months later, Friend saw tall, beautiful mountains like she never seen before. Bobcats dozed on them, waking ever so slightly to say a groggy,Չ Hello.Չ
Then, up ahead, she spots the dreaded paddle wheel she knew she would come upon one day. All she could do now was move downstream. when it seemed like nothing could get better, things got worse. She went into the paddle wheel.
The next day, a young boy saw her, picked her up and read the bottom of her, then threw her back into the water. Then he went to tell his dad that he saved a boat.
A long time later, Friend sees a beaver dam. And gets stuck in it. Weeks later, a sudden wind picks up harder and harder, until it throws her off the dam. She feels bad for the Beaver Family, but she is free.
A couple of years later, she makes it to the Hudson Bay. Friend is very happy to get there, where she can live. As she floats along, she thinks of the long and calm life ahead of her. She thinks to herself, ՉI've overcome many obstacles over the years to get here, but it is a victory for Feather to carve me, and for me to make it to the Hudson Bay.Չ
