My name is Tempest. I always hated water, even though my name means Չa violent storm over the oceanՉ. That all changed the day I was dropped into the Tongue River at Icelandic State Park. My human, whose name I will not say, dropped me into the river when I was asleep. I woke up immediately when I hit the water, and then I started screaming to get myself out of the river. It didnՉt work though. I suddenly stopped screaming because I saw a herd of white tailed deer grazing on some shamrock green grass. I shouldnՉt have screamed so I could look at nature. I looked to my right and saw a group of Oak Trees. I also heard some crickets chirping a beautiful song in sync. While I was on the Tongue River looking at nature, I passed through the tiny town of Akra. I saw a group of kids playing in the mud, getting all dirty. ՉGosh, that looks fun but I have a missionՉ I thought to myself. I was now on my way to Cavalier! I saw multiple cars driving through the countryside. I even saw a group of beavers building a new dam. There was some slimy wet moss at the bottom of the riverbank. Yuck. After some time had passed, I was finally in Cavalier! It was almost sundown so the sunset made the scene look right. Cavalier was a small town but it is bigger than Akra. I fell asleep in the middle of Cavalier because I was tired. When I woke up I was less than a mile from Bathgate. It was a beautiful town and I would like to explore it but I need to make it to Hudson Bay.
I took a quick nap that turned into a slumber of 5 hours.
I awoke to the sound of cars zooming away from Pembina then I realized I was on the Pembina River! There were sedges on my left and wood ducks on the right. Then after I saw the ducks a group of teenagers were skipping rocks ahead of me. I was worried because if one of those rocks hit me, I would sink. I carefully traversed the skipping rocks while also staring at the teens. The oldest one said, ՉHey look a dumb boat, haha. IՉm not feeling mean today so I wonՉt sink it.Չ Whew! That was a close one. I went through Pembina and I could smell a bakery nearby. Mmmm it smells sooo good. I also saw some elm trees planted along the riverbank. I looked at the elm trees closer and saw some elm beetles walking along the trees. Gross. I decided to go to sleep for a few hours.
When I woke up I was in the middle of Emerson, Manitoba, Canada. I was finally on the Red River! Emerson was huge but probably not as huge as Winnipeg. I saw a lot of people biking and jogging to the local park. I even saw this dude walking 5 dogs! It smelled so amazing in Emerson I almost crashed into someone kayaking. That was scary. I saw some people wearing flannel cutting down trees and collecting maple syrup from a lot of maple trees. Many days have passed since IՉve seen any people at all. I was very bored until I saw a scurry of squirrels collecting lots of acorns for Winter. Uh oh. Winter is coming. It was cold in North Dakota but I remember my creator saying it was super super cold in Canada. I fell asleep because what else was I supposed to do. When I woke up I saw some more squirrels collecting acorns and berries. IՉm SO hungry. I wish I had a berry or something. As if the world read my mind, a berry fell out of a tree overhead and landed on me. YUM. After I ate, I fell asleep again but when I woke up I saw Winnipeg in the distance! It was early in the morning but I could tell that I could see Winnipeg. It took about half an hour to reach Winnipeg but it was worth the wait. It was snowing even though it was October. It wasnՉt that cold even with the snow falling and I wish I could make a snow angel but I donՉt have arms or legs. Winnipeg was a very very very big town. He wanted to explore the market and eat a lot of bread but I needed to make it to Hudson Bay. I saw some willow trees and fell asleep again. I woke up to the sound of something flying overhead. Red bats! Wow! I fell asleep again and woke up on Lake Winnipeg! I saw wild roses on the shore and I almost got clobbered by a walleye that was passing by. I was just floating along the surface and then I saw an owl and it grabbed a small walleye that was on the surface. I fell asleep and woke up near the shore and I saw a nursery of raccoons trying to grab pieces of dead fish on the shore. I was bored so I closed my eyes for a few hours but I surprisingly didnՉt fall asleep. When I opened my eyes I saw I was in a river. Hmmm what river am I in? Tongue River? No. Red River? No. Nelson RiverՉ»? YES! I was on the Nelson River! I saw lots of pine trees and chokecherry trees near the shore. I saw some caribou and a pack of timber wolves hunting for some food. I decided to look up at the clouds and I saw a cloud that looked like a snake. It was fun looking up at the clouds. I didnՉt even realize I came out of the river until I saw a polar bear and a lynx playing with each other. Where am I? Hudson Bay! I looked around and I saw a glimpse of ice algae under the ice. I also saw some lichen on a rotting tree. Yuck. I finished my goal of making it to Hudson Bay!!! It was probably mid-Winter and it took me a longtime but it was worth it! I only wanted to see the ice and snow of the snowy landscape. I will live a long and happy rest of my life here!
