On a cold spring morning a young girl carried a backpack with a notebook sized canoe named Spirit gently packed in it. She was carrying it to the bridge. Once she got there she took the canoe out of the bag. Then she dropped the canoe in the river with a splash. And the canoe was on its way. As the Tongue river flowed, the grass swayed. Spirit noticed a deer with its fawn in the swithering grass. It's going to be a bumpy ride, said Spirit going up and down in the current of the river. Then she saw a beaver dam and a beaver. Just at that moment a beaver slapped its tail and Spirit was upside down. As she was upside down she saw minnows and catfish but then a strong current ripped through and Spirit was back up again. Then she was in Cavalier. As she passed through Cavalier she heard cars, trucks, and kids playing. And then she was out of Cavalier. Once she was out of Cavalier she saw fields and tractors planting. A robin was sitting on a lush willow branch alongside the river. She was on the Pembina river. Once Spirit was in the Pembina river she got stuck in some cattails but then a curious fox dragged her out and she was back on her way. And then she was in Pembina. Pembina was a little town. She saw a turkey and a gentle cottonwood tree. Then it started to rain and thunder. A green ash tree fell over and blocked my way. A bird swooped down and grabbed me but then it dropped me in the red river. She saw a walleye swimming in the river. It was a big river. She saw vines climbing up a boxelder tree. When she was in Emerson she saw cars but not much. On her way out of Emerson a curious boy picked her up but then his mom called to come back. He dropped me back in the water and she was on her way. She saw an elk with huge horns and a rabbit sprinting across the horizon. But then she smelled a city smell and then she was in Winnipeg. Winnipeg is a huge city. She saw trains, cars, buses, and trucks. It was a noisy city but when she got out of it she was in lake Winnipeg . Once she was in lake Winnipeg a snapping turtle snapped at me and she turned upside down. But then a screech owl picked me up and then she was on my way. Spirit saw an aspen tree sitting in the meadow but then she was in the Nelson river. She saw a Bur oak tree with a gentle robin sitting on it. As she went through the current got stronger and Spirit got pulled under water. A curious crayfish snapped at me but then she got lifted up and she felt cooler air. Finally, I was in the Hudson's bay. There was a taiga forest and bushes but then a moose was in the water and it splashed Spirit. The water was cold. Almost out of hudson's bay, she saw polar bears and then she saw it. The atlantic ocean i thought what an exciting adventure. whouldn't the young girl be proud (and she definitely was).
