Paddle to the Sea
Sophia Ellingson
Hello! My name is Rose.
I hope I will get to Hudson Bay soon to see my boat friend Daisy.
I hope I will see little bunnies on my way.
I started my journey to the sea in spring when a girl named Sophia sent me off on the Sandhill River.
I was by my boat friend Daisy.
I traveled down the river that was smooth as glass for a while in the town of Fertile.
The water started getting rough as night fell.
CRASH! I was startled by a rock falling into the water next to Daisy and me.
BOOM! Another fell.
The weather eventually cleared up as the sun came up.
I was behind Daisy.
We had made it to Crookston.
Daisy was going as fast as a cheetah.
She tried to stop, but I eventually caught up to her.
We heard a loud noise.
Plop! Plop! Plop!
ՉՉWHAT WAS THAT?!Չ shouted daisy.
I reminded her about the rocks earlier.
Daisy and I met up with another boat friend named Rick when we were in Grand Forks.
We had passed Starbucks.
It got dark and we saw pretty lights up in the sky.
There we were, in Grand Forks, all alone.
The air smelled of Taco Bell.
Yes, Taco Bell.
We were moving as slow as a sloth when morning came.
The sunrise glowing at the bottom of the sky.
I heard birds chirping as they woke up.
We had made it to Winnipeg.
I felt the cold as ice water splashing around me.
Rick had gotten far ahead of us and disappeared.
All of a sudden, Daisy and I felt something pick us up out of the water.
It was a man that smelt of burnt wood.
He worked on trains.
Daisy and I were set back in the river next to each other.
We continued on our journey.
As we went down the river for a while we saw something behind a bush.
It was small and brown.
It slowly came out from behind the bush.
We saw a bear cub!
It had fuzzy brown fur, and cute black eyes.
Wait!
Where was Daisy?!
Oh no.
We had parted our ways.
I would miss her.
I had to keep going!
I traveled through many towns.
I saw bunnies, a stray cat, and was picked up many times and admired.
I eventually saw a great open pool of water.
I arrived.
This was it.
Hudson Bay.
I saw a little dot in the distance.
I paddled over to it.
No way.
It couldnՉt be.
DAISY!
IT WAS HER!
I paddled faster than ever before.
Daisy!
We made it!
I saw fluffy polar bears, seals moving slow as snails.
It was beautiful.
I was where I was meant to be.
